About The LIVErary - Wangari Maathai Edition

About the LIVErary: Wangari Maathai Day Edition

Climate change is already disrupting people’s lives, threatening livelihoods, reducing incomes, and limiting access to food and water. Women, youth, and marginalized groups are often most affected—they are frequently excluded from decision-making and lack access to climate justice and support to implement sustainable community projects. We draw inspiration from phenomenal climate leaders like Wangari Maathai, who fought for environmental justice and mobilized communities to plant over 50 million trees.

On 7th March 2026 at 3 Zero House Kenya (1:30 PM), in commemoration of Wangari Maathai Day and International Women’s Day, this LIVErary Edition will convene 100 youth, including young women and persons with disabilities, alongside 6 environmental storytellers and performong aretists. Participants will learn practical climate resilience strategies from environmental advocates who have lived the experiences, gain insights into sustainable community solutions, develop storytelling skills, and build personal and community resilience. Through storytelling, dialogue, art, and a live panel/podcast recording, the event will foster solidarity, healing, and collective climate action.

The Story Behind the LIVErary

The LIVErary began in the Philippines as a healing platform after a devastating typhoon and later grew into a global climate justice movement under Roots, building a network of over 3,000 young leaders. In Kenya, partners including MuemAction Post, Science, Policy, Action and Community (SPAC) Network, Green NorthEastern Initiative (GNEI), and Saabiko Group of Friends have hosted three editions since 2025, reaching over 300 participants.

We invite you to join this youth-driven platform to amplify culture, women’s leadership, strengthen community resilience, and transform lived climate experiences into collective action.
